UKRAINE ACTIVITIES
Latest Ukrainian news 30th June 2022: €7,500 sent to Ennis Lions Club for passing to Orphanage in Lodz, Poland which is receiving orphaned children from Ukraine. Ennis Lions Club have direct connection with a Lions family member who is on the ground working with the orphanage and ensuring funds are properly used. Thanks to Lion Brian Dooley and his Vintage and Classic car team, for this generous donation. Malahide Lions first involvement with Ukrainian Refugees In March 2020 the first Ukrainian families began to arrive in Ireland. Malahide Lions Club initial involvement was to assist with furniture, bedding and a cooker for a refugee family housed in Malahide. Food vouchers were also given to those newly arrived to help get them started. So many pledges of furniture and other household items were made by the community that a record of those items was documented for future use. Sorting of donations to Ukraine in the Malahide Allotments Malahide Lions were in contact with Mary Griffin, a local volunteer, who organised a sorting group in the Malahide Allotments (Space kindly given by the Irish Epilepsy Care Foundation) to sift through the enormous number of clothing, toiletries and other basic need donations given by local people. Lions Club members volunteered to assist with this. The donations were sorted and sent out to the Polish border to help displaced Ukrainians when they arrived there. Other donated items were given to those arriving in Ireland. |
