Has it ever crossed your mind that people with disabilities might have difficulty in hearing fire alarms, finding exits or mobility problems when staying in public accommodation? Here is an answer to this problem. Produce a door hanger which states that they need help in an emergency situation.
This simple idea, whereby people with a disability as guests at hotels, guesthouses or a resident in a nursing home, hang the notification on their door so that, in the event of an emergency, staff would be alerted to their special needs. This service project has been an excellent PR exercise for Lions to increase our profile in our local communities.Through the Door Hangers project, 50,000 have been distributed throughout our District.
Deaf Awareness The Multiple District produced a badge with ('I can see what you are saying') on it with the Lions logo and it alerts the public that the wearer of this badge has a hearing impairment and relies on lip reading to understand their communication. These badges have been distributed to St Josephs School for the deaf in Stillorgan and Cabra and also to DeafHear in Dublin. The Lions badges have been well received by these organizations.
