Coronavirus. It will come as no surprise to you that the Hillwalk for the Hospice planned for April 19th 2020 did not take place on that date due to the ongoing constraints caused by the Coronavirus.
We had hoped that an ease of restrictions would allow us to hold the walk in late autumn last year but, sadly, this did not prove possible. On Sunday April 24th, after a three year gap, the 22nd annual "Hillwalk for the Hospice" took place on the Hill of Howth in bright sunshine. 34 walkers took part, some on the Tramway Loop, but the majority on the Bog of Frogs Loop. Afterwards the walkers went back to Malahide Cricket Club for refreshments. Malahide Lions Club is grateful to: Trish and Mairéad for organising the teas/coffees, Malahide Cricket club for their hospitality, Londis (Yellow Walls) for sponsoring the sandwiches, Malahide Coaches for their usual efficiency, and, of course, the walkers and their sponsors. It is hoped that the day will raise over €4000 for the Hospice. See presentation photo below. In the meantime, keep walking. The Malahide Community Forum have published some looped walks in the Malahide area on their web page. Click the link above. Recommendations:
You should be in good health and used to walking. Wear suitable clothing, warm socks and comfortable footwear (boots with ankle support preferably). Take account of the prevailing weather conditions and, if necessary, bring a change of clothing/footwear for the return journey. Sunblock may also be required (with a bit of luck!) Carry a backpack with liquid and a light lunch for one stop. The organisers will carry a first aid kit but it is advisable to carry a couple of plasters and blister pads. Presentation of the cheque
On Monday, May 23rd, Lion President Bernie Murray and walk organiser Stephen MacDonagh presented a cheque for €6670 to Dee Kinnane, from the Fundraising Team at St. Francis Hospice. Thanks once again to all the walkers and sponsors. |
