Just before Christmas 2017 a discussion arose about the number of AEDs which were available in the greater Malahide area, who was trained in their use and which had 24 hour accessibility. As a result Lion Paula Bradley was charged with the task of providing answers to these questions and she produced a comprehensive list. It turns out that Malahide is well served with AEDs but training is sporadic at best. Some Lion members had undergone training as members of other clubs/organisations and it was decided to make training available for those who were interested. Lion Damian Carberry informed a meeting that his wife Michelle was a trainer as part of her work with the HSE. On the evening of February 21st Michelle and Ger, another HSE trainer, hosted a training session in the Grand Hotel for ten Lions, only a few of whom had previous experience. The session covered CPR (including AED) for Adults and Infants. It was a very valuable experience (and hard work into the bargain!!). It was decided at a subsequent meeting to hold another session open to staff who worked at locations where AEDs are located.
