In the face of some challenging weather, Malahide Lions Club marked 50 years of service to the community on 15th July last with a celebratory function in the grounds of Malahide Castle which was funded by Fingal County Council and was attended by members past and present, by supporters of the Club’s activities, by community representatives, and by representatives of organisations we have worked closely with over the years.
The event provided an opportunity to thank the community and supporters who have helped Malahide Lions raise funds for so many needs over the past 50 years. Lion Stephen MacDonagh then outlined the history, activities, and contribution of the Club over the past half century. Congratulations to Malahide Lions were offered by Mayor of Fingal, Cllr Adrian Henchy, by USA Ambassador Claire D. Cronin, by Minister Darragh O’Brien T.D., and by Vice District Governor James O’Loughlin. While it was indeed a time out for ourselves, it was also an opportunity to connect with past members, our supporters and partner organisations, and we are hugely appreciative of the support of Fingal County Council, Iconic Promotions, and our thanks to Malahide Castle & Gardens for use of the West Lawn.
Club President Ger Foran announced that the club will part-sponsor the installation of an accessible swing in the public playground in the Castle Park as a commemoration of the 50 years of Malahide Lions Club. This wonderful addition to the Castle playgroung was installed in Februaryy 2024 and was officially opened on 17th February 2024. See the next page ... click here.
