Beneficiary
While all the sponsorship money is not in yet, it's looking good for 2023. See below the photo of the cheque presentation to St. Francis Hospice . Since 1998 we have raised well over €100,000 for the Hospice but, as you know, there is a constant need for funds. By the way, it's not too late to contribute. Update:
On the day the sun shone (thanks to the presence of the Child of Prague in the back garden for the preceding week!) and 32 walkers met on Platform 2 of Malahide Station for the four-minute journey to Donabate. From there we did a short circuit of Newbridge House and struck out for Kilcrea and the Broadmeadow Estuary to begun the long circumnavigation back to Malahide. After a short time we found that we had not quite estimated the ebb of the tide and there was a 30-metre stretch of shallow water which had to be crossed. Once this was successfully overcome the walk continued, via Lissenhall, to the southern side of the estuary and back to "base Camp" Malahide Cricket Culb for refreshments. There we were greeted by a superb spread of food prepared by Lion Maura Garvan - Scones with jam and cream, lemon drizzle cake, brownies and cookies-and platters of sandwiches sponsored by Londis, Yellow Walls. Our thanks to Maura, and her sidekicks Lions Mary Gleeson and Mary McNamara, to Londis , to Malahide Cricket Club for putting their premises at our disposal and to all the walkers and those who sponsored them. Recommendations:
You should be in good health and used to walking.
Wear suitable clothing, warm socks and comfortable footwear (boots with ankle support preferably).
Take account of the prevailing weather conditions and dress accordingly.
Sunblock may also be required (with a bit of luck!)
Carry a backpack with liquid and a light lunch for one stop.
The organisers will carry a first aid kit but it is advisable to carry a couple of plasters and blister pads.
