Rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the Malahide Lions Club when they gathered in Malahide Castle Playground on Saturday 17th February for the long- awaited official opening of the mobility swing which the club has pasrt donated to the playground.
This initiative formed part of the 50th Anniversary celebrations which took place last year, as the club wanted to mark this event with a permanent contribution to the community of Malahide. The new mobility swing will ensure that the playground is more accessible for all children including children with disabilities.
A large crowd gathered to watch the cutting of the ribbon to launch the new swing. RTE’s Joe Duffy was M.C. for the event and he introduced the Mayor of Fingal Cllr. Adrian Henchy who cut the ribbon, assisted by Malahide Lions President Ger Foran. Brief addresses by Fingal Mayor Cllr. Henchy and Lions President Ger Foran were followed by refreshments hosted by Fingal Co. Council in the Malahide Castle Visitors Centre.
After the welcome hot refreshments M.C. Joe Duffy invited Minister Darragh O’Brien TD to say a few words about the new mobility swing and he thanked the Malahide Lions Club for the fantastic new addition to the playground. Cllr. Eoghan O’Brien also thanked Malahide Lions and welcomed the new addition of an accessible swing to the playground. Also in attendance to celebrate this event were Cllr. Anthony Lavin, Barry Andrews MEP and Chief Executive of Fingal Co. Council, AnnMarie Farrelly.
