Malahide Lions Club have hosted a Malahide Senior’s Christmas Party in the Grand Hotel since 2013.
This has been a cherished event for the Senior Citizens in our community of Malahide. It was sorely missed by them when we had to stop due to COVID, especially as they were already greatly impacted by the social isolation caused by COVID. Many of them still feel affected and this event gives them a chance to get back "out there" and mix with friends.
Malahide Lions Club welcomed over 110 local senior citizens to the Grand Hotel on Saturday 23rd November for a Christmas Party. Santa and Mrs. Claus greeted each guest with a small gift as they arrived and the guests then sat down to a delicious three course lunch.
Following the lunch there was a display of Irish dancing from the Mary Grimes School of Irish Dancing with a song also from Eva and Fiadh.
Musical entertainment was provided by Peter Finnegan and he had the crowd singing and dancing and had some of the guests singing their own songs and reciting poems.
Club President Stephen MacDonagh thanked Jo Morris who has been the driving force of the Malahide Senior Citizens over many years and has now announced her retirement. He also praised and thanked the Lions and friends for all their hard work to make the event such a success.
Malahide Lions Club is grateful to all our sponsors and supporters; Brophy Auctioneers, Shiel’s Londis, SuperValu Malahide, Tony Byrne Menswear, St. Sylvester’s Parish, McCabes Pharmacy, United Parishes of Malahide, Portmarnock and St. Doulaghs, Minister Darragh O’Brien TD and Cllr. Cathal Haughey and all those who donated raffle prizes.
The Club is particularly grateful to the Grand Hotel Malahide for its generous support for this event; no effort was spared, from the wonderfully festive presentation of the venue to the quality of the fare. It all added up to a very pleasant Christmas celebration for our senior citizens.
