Malahide Lions Club 2025 Hill Walk for St. Francis Hospice Raheny
Malahide Lions Club’s 25th annual walk to raise funds for St. Francis Hospice took place at the end of April this year. In very pleasant weather, thirty-one walkers took part in the sponsored walk. This year’s walk around some of the Dublin Port Greenway would probably have infringed the Trade Description Act as there were no hills involved much to the relief of some of the participants. Refreshments were served to the walkers by some of the Malahide Lions in the Malahide Cricket Club. |
Malahide Lions Club was pleased to present a cheque for €2,150 to CASA (Caring and Sharing Association). The amount was raised at a very successful fundraising quiz held recently in St. Sylvester’s GAA Club in Malahide.
CASA is a nationwide group that was established to enable their members to develop friendships through social events and to empower individuals. The organisation is unique in that they work with and support people with all disabilities – physical, sensory and intellectual. CASA has a house in Malahide which caters for smaller group social outings and day breaks. The house is suitably adapted focusing on those most in need of care in a smaller setting. There is also a fully accessible garden which provides a sunny social space for the members to enjoy. Malahide Lions Club wish to thank St. Sylvester’s GAA Club for allowing us to use their facilities. We would also like to thank all those who entered or sponsored teams, donated prizes and entered into the spirit of the now obligatory limerick competition which contributed to a fun night enjoyed by all. |
Malahide Lions Club was pleased to present a cheque for €1,000 recently to Snowflakes Autistic Support which is based in the Holywell Community Centre in Swords, Co. Dublin.
Snowflakes is a parent-led charity that supports children with autism and their families. The aim of the charity is to organise events and provide supports to Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) children, their parents and siblings. To date the charity has provided services and supports to over 500 children and their families. The range of services and supports provided by Snowflakes include support group meetings, counselling and parent to baby/toddler mornings. The charity organises information talks and workshops, as well as providing subsidised speech/language/occupational therapies and play therapy. It continues to expand its therapeutic sports and social programmes given the challenges that children with ASD face such as impaired social skills, sensory and cognitive issues. |
Malahide Lions Club was delighted to present a cheque for €960 to Aoife’s Clown Doctors. The donation will pay for four visits of the Clown Doctors to either Temple St. or Crumlin Children’s Hospitals in Dublin.
Aoife’s Clown Doctors was set up to provide visits to hospitals by professional clowns, using humour as a form of healing joy to sick children, the staff who care for them and the children’s families. This is done by professional actors working in pairs, meeting the individual children at their bedside and in the waiting rooms and corridors of the hospitals. The clown doctors parody the hospital routine with jokes and antics involving the children, staff and the children’s families. The charity relies solely on fundraising events, charity partnerships and donations to pay for the clown doctors’ visits. As well as visiting Temple St. and Crumlin hospitals in Dublin, the clown doctors also visit Galway University Hospital, Portiuncula University Hospital in Ballinasloe, Co. Galway and Mayo University Hospital. Nearly 2,000 children in these hospitals were visited by the clown doctors in 2024. The charity was set up in 2005 in memory of Aoife Hendrick from Malahide who sadly died of leukaemia, having spent periods of time in Crumlin Hospital’s St. John’s Ward. Aoife’s parents set up the charity so that Aoife’s legacy would live on through the smiles and laughter of other children. |
From a very successful Christmas Appeal, we have distributed food vouchers in excess of €6,000. Our very grateful thanks to Shiels, Londis, Yellow Walls Road for their very generous sponsorship, and needless to say our thanks to all our wonderful schools, parents and the whole community of Malahide.
