Hospice Walk 2026 . 
Walk Report
The 2026 walk for St. Francis Hospice took place on Sunday, April 12th. The weather gods were kind to us. Rain was promised but it never materialised. 30 walkers took part. We followed the track known as The  Metals from Dun Laoghaire to Dalkey Quarry and then swung around to Killiney Hill where we took a break for refreshments and photographs. Then we returned to Dalkey via Vico and Coliemore Roads and back to Malahide by Dart.
Malahide Lions Club wishes to thank the walkers, their sponsors, Malahide Cricket Club for their hospitality, Londis Yellow Walls, our bakers and the support ladies Maura, Mary G, Siobhán, Margaret, Joan and Eithne. 
​It is hoped that we can match last year's total of €9,100.

Recommendations:
You should be in good health and used to walking.
Wear suitable clothing, warm socks and comfortable footwear (boots with ankle support preferably).
Take account of the prevailing weather conditions and dress accordingly.
Sunblock may also be required (with a bit of luck!)
Carry a backpack with liquid and a light lunch for one stop.
The organisers will carry a first aid kit but it is advisable to carry a couple of plasters and blister pads.

The Metals: At the start of the 19th Century work began on the new Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) Harbour. Stone was sourced from the nearby Dalkey Quarry and a narrow gauge track was constructed to bring the material from quarry to harbour. The path of this track is a popular local walk today.
On arrival at Dalkey quarry we continue on to Killiney head and, Via Vico  and Coliemore Roads, back to Dalkey Station.
