Living Works Start Programme

Start Programme 2020
We are delighted that 5 of our Club members will take part in the new HSE online introductory Suicide Prevention Training programme with Living Works Start .  This is an interactive programme and can be completed in between sixty (60) to ninety (90) minutes. START will enable participants to recognise someone’s thoughts of suicide and take action to ensure they receive help. It will help our members to become more comfortable talking about suicide,be able to support friends and co-workers and to have the peace of mind knowing that they are ready to help. Malahide Lions plan to broaden and deepen our connection with local primary and secondary schools  and we feel that awareness building is hugely important in this area.

SafeTALK 2012

SafeTALK is a 3.5hour suicide alertness programme that prepares participants to be suicide alert helpers. In only a few hours, you will learn how to provide practical help to persons with thoughts of suicide. Expect to leave safeTALK more willing and able to perform an important helping role for persons with thoughts of suicide.

Malahide Lions Club organised two half day presentations on the subject of suicide awareness and we asked the HSE Mental Health Resource Team to make a presentation on Tuesday 19th June and Wednesday 27th June 2012. Their programme is entitled SafeTALK which is a training course that prepares participants to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connects them to suicide first aid resources We are all too aware of the tragic and frequent events that have affect the lives of families in our area.

We invited all the local clubs, societies and groups to send participants to attend either the morning session at Malahide Yacht Club or the evening session in the Grand Hotel. The steps in suicide Safe Talk programme is general awareness, alertness skills, intervention skills and assessment and management skills. Those that attended the programme were very impressed and many indicated that they wished to sign up for the HSE more intensive ASSIST course. Malahide Lions club is pleased to have played the role as facilitators to focus on the resources and training available to tackle this tragic issue that has affect the lives so many people.
