President's Handover

Inaugural Speech from President Alphonsus O'Dowd, 1st July 2008

I feel really delighted and privileged to be elected as the 36th President of Malahide Lions Club for the Lionistic year 2008/2009.
Immediate President Jimmy will be a hard act to follow. It is an indication of his committment and hard work that we are now the largest club in the District.
I joined Malahide Lions Club in May 2005 and since then I have enjoyed very much the warm sense of fellowship, while at the same time endeavouring to help those less fortunate whose needs are not being met elsewhere.
My ambition for the coming year would be that we continue the intake of new members preferably younger men and women.
Our good new members are given satisfying assignments without delay.

We try to get involved in new opportunities for service and most of all to involve all the Club members in a way that makes our first and third Tuesday meetings not to be missed and to also keep our existing and sucessful endeavours.
I am really delighted to welcome Lion Sheilagh as my Vice President as it will be a significant milestone passed when we can say we have a First Lady President.
I hope that it will prove to be an enjoyable as well as a successful year for all the members, their spouses and partners.

I commit myself to see that it is.

President Alphonsus O'Dowd.
