Malahide Cricket Club, 21 August 2011
RTE STAR BLATHNAID NI CHOFAIGH OPENS A FABULOUS DAY OF NOSTALGIA AND FAMILY FUN IN AID OF CHARITY.
Malahide Cricket Club is undergoing redevelopment as one of the premier Cricket grounds for Ireland. For this one day only, before the earthmovers moved in, the Cricket Club made their grounds available to charities Malahide Lions Club and Dublin North Rotary Club to host this special occasion to raise funds for Lions and Rotary charities and causes.
And what a great day it was! Almost 130 magnificent classic and vintage cars and motorbikes displayed on the day with owners coming from all over the Dublin and the wider Leinster region. The Cricket Club looked amazing with this fabulous collection of old vehicles and the drivers appreciated the exceptional quality of the grass surface which, being a cricket pitch, was like driving on a golf putting green.
Exhibitors started to arrive from 10.30 with most on site by 12 in time for the official opening by RTE personality Blathnaid Ni Chofaigh, fresh from hosting the live final of “Charity ICA Bootcamp” on RTE television the previous day.
There was a wide variety of old makes and models and among the notable marques were the Bristols, Lancias, Jaguars, Mercedes and Rovers. American classics also featured and there was a strong contingent of MG’s and Fords. In a feature unique to this Show the car drivers themselves were asked to vote for Car of the Show and the award was won by Tommy Sheridan of Swords for his 1910 Talbot.
Malahide Lions Club would like to thank all our sponsors for their generous support on this historic day.
