36th Charter Anniversary Dinner, 9th October 2009
The 2009 Charter Anniversary dinner was held on the evening of Friday 9th October 2009. The venue, once again, was the very agreeable Malahide Golf Club. Unfortunately very inclement weather meant that the afternoon golf scramble, which normally precedes the dinner, had to be abandoned.
Distinguished guests who enjoyed a very fine dinner included the 105I District Governor James O’Sullivan, and the Golf Club Captain Jim Brett. Our Club President Sheila McGirl presided over the evening's events.
After welcoming the guests, she spoke about her year so far as the club’s first Lady President. Outlining her plans for the rest of the year, she said her aims would be to increase membership still further and in so doing improve the club’s age profile and gender balance. In addition to our usual activities, she looked forward to the up-coming Casino Night and spoke of her hope of reactivating diabetes awareness sessions. A collection of used spectacles for recycling would also be organised.
In conclusion she proposed the toast ‘Lions Clubs International’ .
