2017 Hill Walk.
This year's Hill walk in aid of St. Francis Hospice took place on Sunday, March 26th. The weather gods smiled on us and the sun shone all day. Twenty four hardy souls took to the hills and the vast majority completed the longer of the two walks on offer, nearly 12k. It is hoped, when the final figures are in, to raise nearly €5,000 for the Hospice. See below for some photos. |
Recommendations:
You should be in good health and used to walking. Wear suitable clothing ,warm socks and comfortable footwear (boots with ankle support preferably). Take account of the prevailing weather conditions and, if necessary, bring a change of clothing/footwear for the return journey. Sunblock may also be required (with a bit of luck!) Carry a backpack with liquid and a light lunch for one stop. The organisers will carry a first aid kit but it is advisable to carry a couple of plasters and blister pads. |
Both walks started at Tibradden Wood and followed the Dublin Mountain Way until it intersected with the Wicklow Way south of the Fairy Castle. Those taking the shorter walk then turned south along the Wicklow Way to the road where they were picked up by the bus. (This walk is approx. 3.5km). The longer walk turned north along the Wicklow Way to Kilmashogue. As the road is too narrow there for the bus we continued on foot to the Marlay Park south car park to meet up with the others. Thence we repaired to Taylor's Three Rock for refreshments. We got back to Malahide just after 5.00 p.m..
